Shannon Hsu tells her story…

Moving careers from dance & entertainment to a career as a Psychotherapist might seem like a big jump for most people, however, for me it makes so much sense. I’m a people person and both careers are about people. People sharing stories, holding space, cheering others on, and understanding the power of feelings, emotions, and our bodies.

I grew up surrounded by dysfunction, trauma and people operating in pure reactive survival mode. I experienced trauma myself. Ironically, this upbringing taught me the skills that would so powerfully serve me as a psychotherapist, empathy, intuition, and introspection.

The more I reflect on my childhood I can’t help but wonder if my experiences and their gifts were part of a greater plan…I am dedicated to the experiences of the people I serve and I am dedicated to seeing people turn their stories around so they, too, can claim the gifts those experiences might have left them with.

As a psychotherapist, working in the healing space and especially at Luminous Body, it’s hard not to believe in destiny and fate. They say when it’s right everything just falls into place and that’s exactly how my journey to practice at Luminous Body came about.

It is my truth and my vision that my clients can increase their capacity for safety within themselves. To build resilience in their nervous system and to create a self that not only holds the memories and experiences of their past but also holds their capacity for joy and fulfillment. I serve to remind people of their power and the limitless possibilities life has to offer them and that most of all; that they deserve all of it. I do this through psychotherapy techniques like talk therapy, body based somatic therapy, EMDR and internal family systems. This holistic approach in psychology reaps incredible results.

I remember as a kid & a teen, I would always be talking to myself, constantly soul searching, flash forward a few decades and I hold this space for others, to be curious with love, without judgement and here for every person who has found the strength to walk into my office and sit in the chair in front me. I never take for granted what a privilege it is that I get to hear their stories, how significant it is to create that relationship of trust with them and how much courage it takes for them to show up for themselves every time they choose to walk through my door.

My vision for all of us is to create a life where we can love and connect to ourselves a little deeper, to each other a little more and live a life of impact.
